Eventing

Eventing is the combination of the three main competitive disciplines: dressage, cross-country and show jumping. At Olympic and national level, these competitions take place over three days, one day being given to each discipline. While at a local level event, they usually take place over a single day. Eventing is a stern test of ability, fitness, stamina, athleticisms and resolve for both horse and rider.

Local shows are a good way of getting to know other riders and horses in your area, but will only take you to a certain level of competitiveness. If you want to compete at a higher level, travelling, time and costs will increase proportionately. In addition, winning a local show does not necessarily mean you will come anywhere near winning when the competition is fierce. Only ever, do what you are confident about and find fun, and bear in mind that many great show jumpers and eventers began on the leading rein.
